Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 26, 2026
SM Frogs, LLC, doing business as Bet the Knot ("Bet the Knot," "we," "us" or "our"), provides the website at bettheknot.com and the Bet the Knot Android and iOS applications (together, the "Services"). We are responsible for deciding how personal information is used for the purposes described in this policy.
Bet the Knot provides social predictions and event-engagement features. We do not collect or hold stakes, accept or settle wagers, or provide or pay prizes. Any participant money or prize arrangements are independent of Bet the Knot.
For privacy questions or requests, email support@bettheknot.com. You do not need an active account to contact us. Our registered-agent mailing address is SM Frogs, LLC, 1718 Capitol Ave, Cheyenne, WY 82001, United States.
1. Information we process
The information involved depends on the features you use and what you and other participants provide.
| Information | Examples and source |
|---|---|
| Account and authentication information | Name or display name, email address, username, account identifiers, authentication information and a profile photo you supply. Authentication is handled through the Services and our authentication providers; this does not mean passwords are stored as readable profile fields. |
| Event and participation information | Event titles, descriptions, dates, venue details, participant introductions, invitations, membership, predictions, answers, scores and results. You, event hosts and other participants may supply this information. |
| Communications and images | Chat messages, comments, selected profile photos, event-cover images and images shared through supported chat features. We do not describe this as microphone, audio-recording or video-recording collection merely because an underlying provider may offer those capabilities. |
| Location-feature information | Place-search text, place-search results and event venue names, addresses and coordinates. A location feature may also use your current device location with the relevant permission. A selected venue's coordinates are distinct from your device's location. |
| Device, usage and diagnostic information | App version and build, device and operating-system information, identifiers used to operate the Services, network information such as IP addresses where received by us or our providers, and technical records about activity, errors, crashes, connection failures and performance. These records are not necessarily anonymous. |
| Notifications | Device registration or push-delivery identifiers, routing information and the content needed to deliver service notifications. |
| Feedback and support | Report category, message, request reference, app/platform/version/build information, timestamps and contact details you provide. Contact email in the feedback form is optional. A report sent while signed in may still be associated with your account and is not anonymous merely because you omit that email field. |
You may choose not to provide optional information or decline a device permission. A feature may not work without information it needs. We do not buy personal-information lists or obtain marketing profiles through public-database enrichment, affiliate programs or social-media profiling. Other users can provide information about you, such as through an invitation or shared event content.
Sensitive information in user content
We do not ask for sensitive personal traits in ordinary registration or event fields. However, titles, descriptions, discussions, photos and other content users choose to share may reveal information about religion, sexual orientation, health or other sensitive matters concerning themselves or others. Authentication details, private communications and precise device location may also receive special protection under applicable privacy laws.
Please do not share unnecessary sensitive details or information you are not entitled to disclose about another person. We do not use sensitive information to infer personal characteristics, build advertising profiles or make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects. Sharing information in a private event does not make it public information or authorize unrelated uses.
2. Why we use information
We use information to:
- Create, authenticate, secure and manage accounts.
- Let users create, find through invitations, join and participate in events.
- Deliver predictions, answers, scoring, results, discussions and supported image features.
- Search for places and associate a selected venue with an event.
- Deliver service notifications and administrative communications.
- Respond to questions, feedback, privacy requests and reports of abuse.
- Identify and fix technical problems, maintain reliability and improve the Services proportionately.
- Prevent unauthorized access, fraud and misuse; enforce our terms; and comply with applicable legal obligations or address legal claims.
We do not currently use personal information for advertising or marketing, sell or rent personal information, or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Possible future advertising or referral features are not present purposes under this policy. A new purpose requires a separate assessment, updated disclosures and consent or other choices where required.
3. Legal bases where required
Where a law requires a legal basis, the basis depends on the purpose and circumstances:
| Purpose | Basis where applicable |
|---|---|
| Necessary account and requested service operation | Performance of our agreement with you, or steps you request before entering into it. |
| Proportionate security, abuse prevention, reliability, troubleshooting and service improvement | Our legitimate interests in operating a secure, reliable service, where those interests are not overridden by your rights and interests. |
| Processing for which consent is required | Your consent for the specified purpose. You may withdraw it; withdrawal does not make earlier lawful processing unlawful. Device permission and legal consent are distinct requirements where applicable. |
| Compliance and legal matters | Applicable legal obligations and, where appropriate, the establishment, exercise or defense of legal claims. |
| An emergency involving a person's safety | Protection of vital interests where the applicable legal conditions are met. |
Special protections for sensitive information apply in addition to any general legal basis. Accepting our terms or reading this policy does not provide blanket consent to every use of sensitive information. Contact us if you believe sensitive information about you has been shared improperly or should be removed.
4. Who receives information
Event participants and invitees
Other people receive the information needed for the features you share with them. Event members can see shared event content. Profile photos are available to the account owner and users who share an event with that person; they are not provided through unrestricted public profile-photo URLs. A person with a valid event invitation link or code may see the limited invitation preview, including the event cover, before joining. This does not make the complete event, private discussions or participant profiles generally public.
A recipient may copy, save or share information they can see. We cannot guarantee that another person will keep your content private or that screenshots and other capture can always be prevented. Consider what you share and with whom you share an invitation.
Providers and authorized contractors
We use providers for cloud hosting and storage, account authentication, chat and communications, mapping and place search, push delivery, technical monitoring and support. Providers relevant to these functions include Google/Firebase, Social.plus/Amity and Sentry. Company support and collaboration services, including Slack, may receive information relevant to addressing a particular support or technical issue. Not every provider receives every category of information.
Authorized independent contractors, including contractors in Poland, may access production information to debug problems and address support issues. Development and testing use a separate development environment. Access for support is different from using personal information for advertising or unrelated purposes.
Legal requirements, safety and business changes
We may disclose information when required by law, to respond to a valid legal process, protect rights or safety, investigate misuse, or establish, exercise or defend legal claims, subject to applicable law. Information may also be involved in a proposed or completed merger, financing, acquisition or transfer of business assets, subject to applicable duties and appropriate notice where required. These circumstances do not create a general right to sell users' content for advertising.
5. Website cookies and app technologies
Our website currently uses no cookies. We do not currently use website advertising, analytics or referral-tracking cookies, advertising pixels or web beacons. See our Cookie Policy.
The mobile applications use authentication, local app storage, device permissions and native service-provider technologies to perform the functions described here. A cookie-free website does not mean the mobile apps process no personal information. For mapping features, see the Google Privacy Policy and Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service.
6. Retention
We retain information for the purposes described here, considering the type of record, whether the account or event remains active, support and security needs, requests for deletion and applicable legal requirements. There is no single account-lifetime rule for every category.
| Record or purpose | Retention approach |
|---|---|
| Account and profile information | While needed to provide and manage the account. On account deletion, personal profile information and its attribution to retained shared content are removed, subject to applicable legal retention requirements. |
| Shared event records, messages, photos, predictions and results | May remain as part of the shared event record after an individual account is deleted, subject to content removal requests, the feature rules and applicable law. Event finalization does not currently trigger automatic chat or media erasure. |
| Identifiable ordinary feedback and support records | Up to 12 months after the matter is resolved, with earlier deletion where appropriate. Non-identifying technical issue summaries may be retained separately. This period is measured from resolution, not submission. |
| Technical diagnostics and security records | As needed for proportionate troubleshooting, security investigation, reliability and applicable legal requirements. Periods vary with the record and provider; the support-record limit is not a universal diagnostic or backup limit. |
| Location-feature and administrative-delivery data | As needed for the feature or communication and applicable provider requirements. A venue retained as part of an event follows the event-record criteria. |
Legal obligations, a specific dispute or an investigation may justify limited additional retention where applicable law permits or requires it. We do not use such exceptions as a general basis to keep all personal information indefinitely. Information in backups may remain until the relevant backup is replaced or deleted; applicable restrictions on use and deletion requests continue to apply.
7. Account deletion and shared content
When you delete your account, we remove personal-only account and profile information and the profile attribution and account links associated with retained shared content, subject to applicable legal retention requirements. Shared content may remain without that attribution. Removing attribution does not necessarily anonymize the message or photo itself.
Account deletion, deletion of a particular message and authorized moderator removal are different:
- When an account is deleted, an ordinary retained shared message may remain with a deleted-user attribution, without the former profile photo or account link.
- When a user deletes a message, the message body is removed and a deletion placeholder may remain.
- When an authorized moderator removes a message, its body is removed and the moderator-removal indication is distinct from a user's deletion.
- Shared photos follow the shared-content rule and may remain, subject to applicable removal requests and law.
Before account deletion, we remind you to use available controls to remove content you are concerned about. This is not a condition of making a deletion request and does not replace your legal rights. You can request removal or redaction of identifying shared content at support@bettheknot.com, including after your account is gone. Requests may require appropriate identity or authority verification and assessment of other people's rights and applicable exceptions.
8. International processing
We are a Wyoming company, and the Services include U.S.-based processing. Our providers may process information in other countries, and authorized contractors in Poland may access production information for support and debugging. Those countries may have different data-protection laws from the country where you live.
Where applicable law requires a particular protection or legal mechanism for an international transfer, that requirement applies. Contact support@bettheknot.com to ask about the recipients, processing locations and safeguards applicable to your information, including how to obtain information about any relevant safeguards. Using the Services does not waive applicable data-protection rights or itself provide consent to an otherwise unlawful transfer.
9. Security
We use technical and organizational measures intended to protect information and limit access to authorized service purposes. No transmission, storage system or access control can guarantee complete security. This policy does not promise end-to-end encryption, total prevention of screenshots, or that every technical record is anonymous. Please protect your account credentials and avoid sharing an invitation beyond its intended audience.
10. Age eligibility
The Services are for people aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly solicit personal information from children under 18. Parental permission does not override this eligibility rule. If you believe a child has supplied personal information, contact support@bettheknot.com so we can investigate, deactivate an ineligible account and take appropriate steps to delete the information. This eligibility rule is not a representation that age verification occurs for every account.
11. Your privacy choices and rights
You can use available account controls to update your information, manage device permissions and notifications, and request account deletion. You can also contact support@bettheknot.com, whether or not you have an account. Changing a device permission may affect the corresponding feature and does not automatically remove previously stored event content.
Depending on the law that applies, you may have rights to:
- Know whether and how we process personal information, and obtain access or a copy.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Request deletion, subject to applicable exceptions.
- Restrict or object to particular processing, including processing based on legitimate interests where that right applies.
- Obtain portable information where required.
- Withdraw consent for processing that relies on consent.
- Opt out of sale, cross-context behavioral advertising, targeted advertising or qualifying profiling, and limit certain uses of sensitive information, where those rights apply. We do not currently conduct those advertising, sale or qualifying profiling activities.
- Receive non-discriminatory treatment for exercising applicable privacy rights.
- Complain to the relevant data-protection regulator and appeal a refusal where applicable.
We do not make decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects about you solely through automated profiling. We do not use the Services to create sensitive-trait advertising profiles.
Requests, verification and appeals
Send requests to support@bettheknot.com or to our mailing address in section 14. Tell us what you are requesting and provide enough information to identify the relevant account or content. Do not send passwords. We may request information reasonably needed to verify your identity or an authorized agent's authority. We consider the rights of other people and any legal exceptions, explain a denial where required, and respond within the period required by applicable law. An active account is not required to submit a request.
If we decline a request and you wish to appeal, email the same address and identify it as an appeal. We will provide the response and any further complaint route required by the applicable law.
Regional rights
For U.S. residents, the availability of particular state-law rights depends on the applicable statute and circumstances. California residents may also request the information required by California's Shine the Light law about qualifying direct-marketing disclosures, if any. We do not currently use personal information for such marketing.
If EEA, UK or Swiss data-protection law applies, the relevant rights include access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, subject to the applicable conditions. You may complain to your local supervisory authority. UK residents may contact the Information Commissioner's Office; Swiss residents may contact the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner. EEA authorities are listed by the European Data Protection Board.
If Canadian, Australian, New Zealand or South African privacy law applies, you may request access or correction, exercise other applicable rights and complain to the competent regulator. This policy does not remove protections provided by the law that applies to you.
12. U.S. data-category summary
The following summarizes the categories described in section 1, including those used or disclosed to operate the Services. A category label does not mean that we collect every example that could fall within that legal category.
| Category | Actual scope |
|---|---|
| Identifiers and customer-record information | Names/display names, email addresses, account and authentication identifiers and related contact information. |
| Protected characteristics | Only to the extent users voluntarily reveal them through supplied content; no ordinary registration fields asking for these traits. |
| Internet or similar network activity | Service-use and technical diagnostic activity; not cross-site advertising histories or advertising-interest profiles. |
| Geolocation | Optional device location for a relevant feature, distinct from selected event venues. |
| Visual or similar information | Selected profile, cover and supported chat images; not a claim that we record conversations or collect thermal or olfactory data. |
| Sensitive information | Authentication information, private communications and precise location where applicable, and sensitive details users voluntarily include in content. |
We do not collect purchasing histories, biometric identification data, employment records or student education records as dedicated service data categories, or create consumer profiles by inferring traits for advertising. Unstructured content can contain information beyond the ordinary fields; please avoid unnecessary disclosures. Sources, purposes, recipients and retention are explained in sections 1 through 8. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Services, practices or applicable requirements change. We will update the date and provide notice or seek consent where required for a material change. New purposes are not authorized merely by reserving the possibility of an update.
